Sound design you're not supposed to notice
(Example post — replace with your own writing.)
There’s a whole craft that only announces itself when it fails. Good picture editing, good color, good sound: you feel the scene, not the work.
Scenes I think about
- A conversation where the room tone shifts half a dB when the door closes, and suddenly the space is private.
- A cut to silence that’s actually a low rumble at the edge of hearing, so the next sound hits like a slap.
- Foley footsteps mixed just loud enough to tell you whose scene it is.
None of this is subtle to make. It’s a pile of decisions, each one small.
Why it matters to me
This is the work I want to do. Writing about it here is a way of keeping my ears honest — noticing on purpose, not just reacting.
